What is a diving watch?

Diving watches help water sports enthusiasts and professional divers to reliably keep an eye on the descent time, exit time and the ascent time including the decompression breaks.

Diving watches are characterized by tested water resistance (of at least 20 atm) and must be able to read the time and diving time from a distance of 25 cm (even in the dark). In addition, this type of watch must offer the option of preselecting a time period using a timer or bezel.

The criteria that a diving watch must meet in order to be sold in Germany are defined in DIN 8306.
