What is a manual-winding watch?

Manual-winding watches are wound manually using the crown.

Mechanical watches require neither a battery nor solar power and are considered the most common type of watch. They differ in their power source:

  • whose movement is wound manually via a crown (manual winding)
  • and watches whose movement is kept in time by arm movement while being worn (automatic).
Unlike automatic watches, hand-wound watches do not have a self-winding rotor.
