What is a quartz watch?
Quartz watches are battery-operated and use a quartz crystal as a clock
That is, the battery sends electricity to the quartz crystal, which as a result oscillates at a constant frequency of 32,768 times per second. This oscillation is converted by a circuit into regular pulses that enable very precise timekeeping with only a few seconds of deviation per month and move the hands.
Electric wristwatches are often environmentally friendly, as they are powered by solar cells. However, there are also many watches on the market—especially classic quartz watches—that are still battery-powered.
Reliability and accuracy are generally highly valued in wristwatches with an electric movement. The maximum deviation per month is just ± 30 seconds. Only radio-controlled watches exceed this value.
Another advantage of electric watches is that they are generally robust and require only minimal maintenance.
